Cancer Survivors Reclaim Parenthood: Oncofertility Offers Hope After Treatment
An Oncofertility Program in Poland helps cancer patients preserve their fertility. The program combines cancer treatment with methods like storing eggs, embryos, or ovarian tissue for future use. The University Clinic of Endocrinological Gynecology and Gynecology in Krakow started this program in 2016 and helped 18 patients in 24 months. Patients aged 20 to 39 sought fertility preservation within 2 to 55 days of being diagnosed with cancer. Some had their fertility preservation procedures quickly before starting their cancer treatment. After two years, four patients underwent fertility preservation procedures, and two of them later had healthy babies naturally during their cancer remission. However, there is a concern that not enough cancer patients are being told about oncofertility options. It's crucial to increase awareness among oncologists to improve referrals to oncofertility programs.
