By using computer simulations, researchers found that applying the film lowered the amount of heat coming in through the windows by 13% and reduced the need for cooling by 8% on hot days. Overall, the building saved about 9% on cooling energy costs each year. The shape of the building also affected how much energy was saved, with buildings with a more compact design seeing bigger reductions.
