New forest growth model boosts tree height and diameter accuracy!
The researchers studied the growth of Cunninghamia lanceolata forests in Hunan Province to improve forest production. They used different models to fit height and diameter growth curves and found the best one. By considering stand origin, they created compatible equations for different stands. The model with dummy variables improved accuracy and solved compatibility issues. Artificial and natural forests showed similar growth progress, but artificial forests grew faster in the young stage. Tree height and diameter reached maximum values earlier in artificial forests.
