Groundbreaking Study Reveals Untapped Aquifer Potential in Ethiopia's Blue Nile Basin
The study focused on volcanic rock aquifers in the Blue Nile Basin, Ethiopia. Different types of aquifers were identified using geological and hydrogeological methods. The aquifers were categorized based on their potential productivity, with high potential aquifers recommended for sustainable groundwater management. The study found that weathered and fractured zones in basalt formations are the main water-bearing areas, with varying hydraulic conductivity and transmissivity values across different aquifer types.
