Sudan's Sugar Industry Faces Crisis as Production Plummets by 32%
The sugar industry in Sudan has seen a significant decrease in production over the past 9 years. Six sugar mills in the country have experienced a drop in production by 32%, with the largest mill, Kenana, seeing a decline of 25.8%. This has led to the need for importing around 599,500 tons of sugar annually. The reasons for this decline in sugar production are being discussed.
