Revolutionary Waste Treatment Method Boosts Efficiency in Removing Pollutants
Constructed wetlands are effective systems for treating wastewater. A study in Egypt tested using different materials in the wetlands and found that adding polystyrene foam to the usual media improved pollutant removal. The levels of pollutants like BOD, COD, TSS, ammonia, and phosphate in the treated wastewater were significantly reduced. The best flow rate for efficient pollutant removal was found to be 2 m3/day. This study shows that using a combination of traditional and alternative media in constructed wetlands can enhance the removal efficiency of pollutants from domestic wastewater.
