Saline water irrigation boosts crop yield while reducing soil salinity.
Saline water irrigation in high water table areas can boost crop yield but may lead to soil salt buildup. To counter this, a study in Hebei Province tested subsurface drainage to remove excess salts. Results showed soil salt levels fluctuated under different saline water concentrations, with drainage effectively reducing salt accumulation. Overall, soil salt levels were lower in irrigated areas compared to control, leading to higher wheat yields, especially with 1 g·L-1 saline water treatment.
