Fungi-powered enzyme could revolutionize sustainable waste management.
The researchers aimed to find a fungus that produces laccase enzyme and improve the conditions for growing it. They found a fungus that makes a lot of laccase when grown on a mix of soybean meal, sawdust, xylose, and ammonium tartrate with the right amount of moisture. The best temperature for laccase production was 60 ℃, and it stayed stable below 50 ℃. The ideal pH for laccase activity was 3.5, and it remained stable between pH 6.5 and 9.0. By optimizing the growth conditions, they increased laccase activity by 7 times.
