Intercropping Vetch Varieties Boosts Forage and Maize Yields in Ethiopia.
The study tested different vetch varieties intercropped with maize in various agro-ecologies in Ethiopia to see which combination produced the best yields. Vetch variety V. vilosa performed best in dry matter yield in high and midland sites, making it a good choice for those areas. However, at lowland sites, V. sativa was better for intercropping with maize. Overall, intercropping vetch with maize was more beneficial than growing them separately, with V. narbonensis showing the highest total dry matter yield advantage. The results suggest that the choice of vetch variety and planting time can significantly impact the yield of the intercropped plants.
