Habitat changes threaten bird species abundance in Nigeria's bitumen belt.
Bird species abundance in different habitats was studied in Ode-Irele, Nigeria. The researchers looked at how many birds were in areas with different types of trees, shrubs, and herbs. They found that the number of birds was influenced by the type of habitat they were in, and this could be predicted by the vegetation in that habitat. A total of 88 bird species were identified in the study area. This information can help protect habitats that are important for bird survival, especially during development projects like bitumen extraction.
