Study finds natural forests crucial for reducing soil erosion and runoff.
Surface runoff and sedimentation are important factors in the hydrological processes of forests. A study was conducted in Yagirala Forest Reserves to understand how storm runoff and soil erosion occur in different types of forests. The researchers found that there was no significant difference in surface runoff between Natural Forest and Pinus caribaea enriched Forest. However, the Natural Forest had significantly higher sediment yield, indicating it is better for soil conservation. This information is crucial for implementing sustainable watershed management practices.
