Boosting maize yield and reducing soil nitrate levels with phosphorus application
Applying phosphorus fertilizer to maize fields can decrease the amount of nitrate nitrogen in the soil and improve grain yield. The study found that soil nitrate nitrogen levels decreased with depth, and applying phosphorus along with nitrogen reduced nitrate nitrogen accumulation in the soil. The best results were seen with 120 kg/hm2 of phosphorus fertilizer, which increased grain yield and nitrogen uptake by the plants. This approach can help increase crop yield, enhance nitrogen absorption by plants, and reduce nitrate nitrogen accumulation in the soil.
