Tillage Improves Soil Quality and Boosts Maize Root Growth Volume
The researchers studied how different tillage methods affect the physical properties of soil after growing winter maize. They conducted experiments on loamy sand soil in India and found that only tillage had a significant impact on the soil. The bulk density decreased, penetration resistance and mean weight diameter reduced, while water stable aggregate and infiltration rate increased. The Mould Board plough method resulted in higher root volume compared to other methods.
