Seawater Intrusion Threatens Crop Yield in Sujawal District, Urgent Action Needed
Soil salinity in Sujawal District was studied from 1990 to 2017 using field and satellite data. The soil was found to be affected by seawater intrusion, with over 50% of the top layer being salty. The study showed that the soil texture was mainly fine to medium particles, with high levels of soluble salts in some areas. Vegetation decreased while barren land and water bodies increased. The study suggests that remote sensing data is a cost-effective way to monitor soil salinity and can help land managers and policymakers take action to control salinity in the region.
