Sand compaction piles increase soil density for improved earthquake resistance.
The study looked at how compacting sand can increase its density and the earth pressure coefficient K0. By using dynamic analysis, the researchers found a way to model the effects of both density increase and K0 increase separately. They used 3D analysis to simulate the soil resistance measured by N values and confirmed their findings with real-world examples. The results suggest that accurately setting or measuring K0 can significantly enhance the effectiveness of soil improvement methods.
