Mulching with plastic film can help increase soil temperature and improve seedling growth in cold spring areas. A study in north-western China found that using plastic film mulching at different widths affected soil temperatures at 5 cm depth. Thicker mulch led to lower soil temperatures. The study used a model to simulate soil temperatures and found that the model matched well with actual observations. By simplifying the model, accurate soil temperature predictions can be made with less input.
