European Enlargement Policy Strengthened Democracy but Faces Populist Backlash.
The article analyzes the European Enlargement Policy towards the Western Balkans since 2003. It looks at how the EU has worked to maintain enlargement as a priority through discussions, strategies, and financial support. The study used content analysis to examine the policy over the years. The results show that while the EU has shown commitment to enlargement, there have been challenges, including the rise of right-wing parties, euroscepticism, and terrorism, which have affected the policy's success.
