English environment influences East Asian students' willingness to communicate in L2.
The study looked at Korean and Taiwanese students learning English as a second language. They found that both groups were less willing to speak English in the classroom. Anxiety about speaking English seemed to affect both groups equally. Korean students were more willing to speak English outside the classroom, while Taiwanese students were more willing to use English in digital settings. The differences may be due to the English environment and teaching methods. Providing more opportunities for English practice can help East Asian learners become more willing to communicate in English.
