Waste from palm oil mills transformed into valuable chemical precursor
Microwave-assisted sodium hydroxide pretreatment was used to extract hemicellulose from oil palm empty fruit bunches for furfural production. The researchers found that using 1.15% sodium hydroxide concentration, 593.43-Watt microwave power, and 5.99 minutes of radiation time resulted in the highest hemicellulose recovery of 23.22%.
