Hydrogen-powered future: Efficient production, storage, and conversion to transform energy landscape
Hydrogen is a promising fuel for the future in electricity and transportation. Scientists are working on making hydrogen production, storage, and conversion more efficient and cost-effective. They are improving water electrolysis to reach close to 100% efficiency. Storing hydrogen as a metal hydride is better than other methods. An iron-titanium alloy works well for electric utilities, but lighter hydrides are needed for cars. Fuel cells and gas turbines can convert energy at about 60% efficiency. Different types of fuel cells are being researched for better performance.
