Boosting nitrogen levels enhances plant photosynthesis under low light conditions
Researchers studied how different levels of light intensity and nitrogen affected the growth of Dicranopteris dichotoma, a plant commonly found in degraded forests. They found that without nitrogen, the plant grew best in moderate light, while nitrogen helped improve photosynthesis. Lower light levels led to higher levels of chlorophyll and carotenoids in the plant. Overall, nitrogen application increased the plant's photosynthetic pigment content. The plant showed the most photos-inhibition under full light conditions.
