Phthalates in blood and semen linked to reduced sperm motility in China.
The study looked at phthalate levels in blood and semen of 103 individuals in Guangzhou, China. They found that certain phthalates (MEHP and MnOP) were the most common in both blood and semen samples, but their amounts were not closely related. Interestingly, semen motility was linked to phthalate levels in semen but unrelated to levels in blood. Overall, the researchers determined that exposure to these chemicals at current levels in the environment had minimal impact on semen quality in the population studied in Guangzhou, China.
