Cebu Island's Runoff Estimates Unlock Water Management Solutions for Growing Population
The aim was to figure out how much rainwater runs off Cebu Island using a method called SCS Runoff Curve Number. This method uses factors like rainfall, land type, and soil to estimate runoff without direct measurements. By combining rainfall data, land cover details, and computer modeling, the researchers estimated runoff amounts for the island's different areas. They compared these estimates to results from a computer model called FLO-2D. The SCS method's predictions aligned well with the FLO-2D model's estimates, suggesting it could be useful for understanding Cebu Island's runoff, even in places without monitoring data. This could help with managing water resources on the island.
