New study reveals key protein's role in cancer development and treatment.
The study found that a protein called Hipk is important for a signaling pathway called JAK/STAT in fruit flies. When Hipk is overexpressed, it can cause tumors, similar to when JAK/STAT is too active. Removing Hipk can reduce the effects of overactive JAK/STAT. Hipk interacts with another protein, Stat92E, and helps control where it goes in the cell. This shows that Hipk is needed for JAK/STAT to work properly.
