Revolutionary Nutrient Management Method Reduces Environmental Pollution in Korean Farms
Mixed crop-swine farms in Korea can cause nutrient surpluses and environmental pollution. By comparing different nutrient budgeting approaches, researchers found that the soil system budget approach is more effective in managing nutrients on these farms. Changing manure treatment methods, like continuous aeration for liquid composting and turning+aeration for solid composting, can significantly reduce nitrogen and phosphorus loading to the soil. This study suggests that using the soil system budget approach and implementing specific manure treatment techniques can help create sustainable nutrient management plans for mixed crop-swine farms in Korea.
