New Study Reveals Terracing as Most Effective Method to Reduce Sediment Yield
The study evaluated how sediment yield varies over time and space in the Bilate watershed in Ethiopia. Researchers used a model to simulate sediment levels based on factors like land use, soil type, and rainfall. They found that applying certain conservation measures like terracing can significantly reduce sediment levels in the watershed. In fact, terracing was the most effective method for reducing sediment compared to other measures like grassed waterways and filter strips. This suggests that implementing terracing can help manage sediment levels in the watershed more efficiently.
