Metal Complexes Boost Energy Release in Explosives, Revolutionizing Propellant Performance.
Metal complexes of nano-graphene oxide were used to improve the thermal decomposition of FOX-7, an explosive material. Copper and iron complexes of nano-graphene oxide were created and added to FOX-7. The iron complex had a greater impact on FOX-7 decomposition, starting at 230°C and releasing 3535.6 J·g−1 of heat. The addition of these complexes also helped produce more nitrogen during FOX-7 decomposition, leading to a more complete breakdown of the material.
