Innovative LID practices reduce surface runoff, revolutionizing urban stormwater management.
Urban areas are getting more paved, causing more stormwater runoff. Low Impact Development (LID) is a good way to manage this. In Dresden, Germany, LID practices were tested from 2001 to 2015. Different scenarios were simulated, and costs were analyzed. Results showed LID practices helped reduce runoff. The best combo was an infiltration trench, permeable pavement, and rain barrel. Rain barrels were the most cost-effective. Longer rain scenarios had a bigger impact on runoff removal. This study gives better methods for using LID practices.
