New study expands concept of 'capital' in sociology of sport.
The article expands on the concept of 'capital' in sociology of sport by summarizing various forms of capital discussed in social sciences. These include symbolic, emotional, gender, spatial, subcultural, bodily, and performance capital. These forms of capital are rooted in Bourdieu's concepts of embodied cultural capital and symbolic capital. The unique explanatory power and expansiveness of these concepts can be applied in sociology of sport to theorize sports fields as micro-societies and internal practices.
