Crop Shift Transforms Krishna Delta: Surging Maize, Declining Rice-Pulse Patterns
The researchers used satellite data to study changes in crop patterns in the Krishna delta region of Andhra Pradesh. They analyzed different types of crops grown in the area during the kharif and rabi seasons. The study found that rice was the main crop in the kharif season, while pulses dominated in the rabi season. Over the years, there was a decrease in rice-pulse cropping and an increase in rice-maize cropping. Maize cultivation also expanded in the region. These changes in cropping patterns can help improve the sustainability of agriculture in the area.
