Genetic breakthrough boosts lamb weight and quality for Irish farmers
Lamb live weight is crucial for sheep farms' profits. This study looked at genetic traits in Texel, Suffolk, and Charollais lambs in Ireland. They analyzed data from over 137,000 records to see how genes affect weight and carcass composition. They found that genes play a significant role in these traits, with different heritability levels for each breed. The results suggest that genetic evaluations should be done separately for each breed.
