Freshwater life is in danger, and we need to protect it better. The new global biodiversity plans for after 2020 should focus more on freshwater species, like fish and plants in rivers and lakes. We need to pay attention to things like clean water, invasive species, and how we manage water resources. By following 14 recommendations based on European experiences, we can help stop the decline of freshwater biodiversity worldwide.
