New method recovers zinc from industrial waste, boosting metal recycling rates.
The researchers used a combination of water leaching and acid leaching to extract zinc from the dust of a rotary hearth furnace. Water leaching dissolved soluble components like ZnCl2, KCl, and NaCl, while acid leaching recovered zinc from the residue. Increasing HCl concentration improved zinc leaching rate. Adding NaOH precipitator helped recover zinc, with a total metal recovery rate of 79.46%.
