Vietnamese Mekong Delta faces rapid erosion and sedimentation challenges.
Understanding how river banks and shorelines change is crucial for protecting the environment and managing resources in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta. By analyzing satellite images from 1989 to 2014, researchers found that erosion and accretion in the region are influenced by natural and human factors. Erosion rates vary from medium to high along the Mekong River, while stability is observed in tidal-dominated areas. Different erosion mechanisms, like soil collapses and monsoon effects, were identified in different zones. Tailored solutions are needed to protect each region effectively, and more monitoring is necessary to study these processes accurately.
