The article introduces a new method for measuring stress in rocks by using a special imaging technique in boreholes. This technique allows researchers to calculate the shape of the borehole walls in three dimensions, which helps determine the stress inside the rock. By developing a unique imaging apparatus and software, the researchers were able to accurately measure the stress magnitude and direction.
