Restructuring government spending in Russia boosts economic growth, study finds.
The type of government spending in Russia affects economic growth. Spending on things like the national economy, education, and health helps GDP grow, while spending on defense and social policies slows it down. Increasing spending on the national economy by 1% of GDP can boost GDP growth by 1.1 percentage points. Education spending can increase GDP growth by 0.8 percentage points, and health spending by 0.1 percentage points. On the other hand, defense spending decreases GDP growth by 2.1 percentage points, and social spending by 0.7 percentage points. These findings are in line with previous studies on government spending and economic growth in Russia and other countries.
