Bronze Age animal use in China paved the way for Zhou conquest.
Researchers studied animal remains from two ancient sites in northern China to understand how people in the region used animals around 1050 BCE. They found that residents of these sites practiced farming and animal husbandry, with a focus on raising goats on less fertile land. This shows that the economy in the Jing River valley during this time was based on a variety of animal resources, which helped the Zhou Dynasty grow and eventually defeat the Shang Dynasty.
