Tea plantations in China facing serious soil acidification crisis
Soil acidification is a big problem in Chinese tea plantations. A study looked at soil acidity in tea-growing areas across China. They found that almost half of the soil samples were too acidic for tea to grow well. Over the past 20-30 years, soil in tea plantations became much more acidic compared to other types of crops. Tea farms using chemical fertilizers caused the most soil acidification, while organic tea farms did not. This shows that organic farming is better for sustainable tea growth.
