Urban trees in stormwater control measures could revolutionize water management.
Urban trees can help control stormwater by absorbing and releasing water through their leaves. Researchers studied how redirecting stormwater to trees in a suburban street affected water balance. They found that while the trees didn't absorb more water, they still used a lot (up to 96 liters per day). This could help reduce stormwater runoff by increasing evapotranspiration. Integrating trees with stormwater control measures in cities could be a smart way to manage water and increase green spaces.
