Soil salinity in Iran's desert increasing, threatening agriculture and water supply.
The study looked at soil salinity in a desert area in Iran using a new method to save time and money. They used a model to predict salinity in the future by looking at changes in land use and groundwater. The model predicted soil salinity with 73% accuracy. Over 30 years, the area with high salinity levels increased, while areas with lower salinity decreased. By 2030, the most salty areas will grow, and the least salty areas will disappear. Salinity levels are increasing from east to west in the region.
