An advanced energy system called integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) efficiently turns coal into electricity for utilities. Demonstration projects are close to being built. A coal conversion facility simulates how IGCC works, testing its components and overall performance. Results show that an efficient and cost-effective IGCC can be designed to meet utility needs while being environmentally friendly.
