Vietnamese starch study reveals key to biodegradable plastic revolution.
The study analyzed different starch sources in Vietnam to determine their amylose and amylopectin content using UV-VIS spectroscopy. Corn starch had the highest amylose content at 28.22%wt. Arrowroot starch had the highest amylose content (27.24%), but dong starch had the smallest rearrange level in its structure. The researchers used FT-IR and XRD analysis to evaluate starch structure and crystallization levels. The findings suggest that starch with suitable amylose and pectin content, as well as good crystallization properties, can be used for making biodegradable composite materials.
