Collective narcissism fuels ingroup defense, outgroup prejudice, and disloyalty.
The study looked at how people's beliefs about their own group affect their behavior towards their group and other groups. They found that when people believe their group is great but needs validation from others (collective narcissism), they are more likely to defend their group's image, be disloyal to their group, and have negative attitudes towards other groups. On the other hand, when people have a confident and positive view of their group (secure ingroup identification), they are more likely to be loyal to their group and have positive attitudes towards other groups. These findings suggest that how people see their own group can influence how they behave towards their group and others.
