Delayed sowing boosts sorghum yields, offering hope for food security in Egypt
The researchers studied how different planting dates and sorghum genotypes affected growth and yield in Egypt. They found that delaying planting until late May or June increased plant growth, while June planting led to earlier maturity. The Sandaweel-305 hybrid was the tallest and matured earliest, while the Sandaweel-306 hybrid planted in June had the highest yield. They also discovered that grain yield was linked to panicle weight, kernel weight, leaf area, leaf area index, and total dry weight, suggesting these factors can help predict sorghum yield.
