South Asia and East Asia have been getting more economically connected since the 1990s, with India becoming a major trade partner for East Asian countries. India is actively seeking free trade agreements with Southeast Asian nations, benefiting South Asia. Trade and investment between the regions are increasing, but obstacles like limited use of trade agreements and poor infrastructure are holding back full economic integration. Expanding economic cooperation could greatly boost integration between South Asia, especially India, and East Asia.
