Intercropping sesame with blackgram boosts yield and profits, slashes weed growth.
The researchers studied how different ways of managing weeds affect the yield and profits of sesame crops grown with other plants. They found that intercropping sesame with blackgram in a specific ratio resulted in the lowest weed growth and highest sesame yield. Hand-weeding was more effective than using chemicals to control weeds. Overall, intercropping sesame with blackgram was the most profitable option, bringing in the highest income and returns. The researchers also discovered that post-emergence application of alachlor was better than pre-emergence pendimethalin for chemical weed management.
