Choosing Park-and-Ride Locations Closer to Destination Boosts Transit Preference
The study looked at how people choose where to park and ride in a transportation network with different options. They found that users prefer spending more time on public transit than in a car. People tend to pick a park-and-ride location closer to their destination, but not necessarily the one that saves them the most time overall. Factors like age, income, and gender don't seem to affect their choice. Amenities at the park-and-ride facilities don't make much of a difference. Rail and bus rapid transit services are preferred over express buses. The study used different models to predict transit route choices accurately, improving predictions by about 11%. Choices that overlap with a user's route are more likely to be picked than those that don't.
