Optimal nitrogen application boosts winter wheat yield and economic benefits.
The researchers studied the effects of different nitrogen levels on winter wheat grown under drip irrigation in Xinjiang. They found that applying around 173 kg·hm-2 of nitrogen resulted in taller plants with larger leaves, optimal canopy temperature and humidity, and higher grain-leaf ratio. This nitrogen level also led to increased yield and economic benefits compared to lower or higher nitrogen levels. Overall, the study suggests that applying the right amount of nitrogen can improve the growth and productivity of winter wheat in this region.
