Onion farmers can cut water use by 50% without major yield loss
The researchers tested different ways of watering onion plants to see how it affects their growth. They used microsprinklers and drip irrigation systems with different amounts of water. When they reduced the water by half using surface or underground drip irrigation, the onion yield dropped by 23% and 7%, respectively. This means that cutting back on water during irrigation can decrease the amount of onions that can be grown.
