Strong currents and waves impact boating safety at Tillamook Inlet.
The study looked at how waves, currents, and changes in the shape of the seabed affect boating at Tillamook Inlet. By using computer models, researchers found that strong currents and ocean waves can make the entrance to the inlet tricky to navigate. During winter storms, waves get bigger and break more at the inlet. The direction of the current also affects how waves behave, with ebb currents making waves break more. The study suggests that taking a south passage out of the inlet is safer than going straight out or turning northwest.
